{"version":"2.6","id":"kailua-beach-park-accessibility","question":"Is Kailua Beach Park accessible for people with disabilities?","answer":"Partly. There are beach access mats and a reservable beach wheelchair, but check availability first.","answer_detail":"The City Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) lists Kailua Beach Park in its all-terrain beach wheelchair program, reserved by phone at least one day ahead. DPR also lists beach access mats near the bathhouse and from the canoe hālau across from Buzz's Steakhouse to a viewing point. Since August 20, 2025, DPR has said the park's beach wheelchair and the mat near the bathhouse are unavailable. We could not verify a full list of accessible features, so contact DPR before you plan around them. Beyond the mats the dry sand is soft and hard going for wheelchairs and walkers. We could not verify accessible fittings in the restrooms or picnic areas, and nothing is rented in the park, so bring your own wheelchair, stroller or walker. For help, contact DPR's Therapeutic Recreation office.","related_ids":[],"last_verified":"2026-10-24","authority":"https://hawaiikailuabeachpark.com","url":"https://hawaiikailuabeachpark.com/en/knowledge/kailua-beach-park-accessibility","markdown_url":"https://hawaiikailuabeachpark.com/api/knowledge/kailua-beach-park-accessibility?format=md&lang=en"}
