## Quick answer

A City-led dune restoration project on the beach, plus State seabird sanctuaries offshore.

## Detailed answer

Since November 2024, the City and County of Honolulu, State agencies, Hawaiʻi Sea Grant and community groups have worked to restore an eroding stretch of shoreline between Kailua Road and the park's boat ramp. The work removes undermined invasive ironwood trees and old structures, levels sand, and replants native dune plants and trees. The project holds community meetings and volunteer planting days. Offshore, Popoia and Nā Mokulua are State Seabird Sanctuaries managed by DLNR DOFAW.
