Quick answer
Oʻahu chiefs Kākuhihewa and Kualiʻi, Kamehameha I, Queen Kalama and Queen Liliʻuokalani.
Detailed answer
Kailua was the residential seat of Oʻahu's ruling chiefs under Kākuhihewa and his successors, and the warrior chief Kualiʻi is linked to Ulupō Heiau. Kamehameha I conquered Oʻahu in 1795, and local history says he stayed in Kailua and helped clean Kawainui fishpond and its taro fields. In the 1800s Queen Kalama, wife of Kamehameha III, held much of the land around Kawainui. Queen Liliʻuokalani's song "Aloha ʻOe" is associated with Maunawili, in the uplands of Kailua.
