Nā Mokulua and Popoia (Flat Island), just offshore, are State Seabird Sanctuaries managed by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife. Visitors must stay below the high water mark there, the islets are closed from sunset to sunrise, and dogs, fires and camping are not allowed. In the park, the City and community volunteers have planted native dune plants behind rope fencing, so use the marked pathways to reach the sand. City park rules also make it unlawful to chase, harass or harm animals and birds.
